IPC Shooting Updates

a) IPC Shooting Rulebook:

Currently, a comprehensive review of the IPC Shooting rules and regulations is underway. For the 2009 season, the competition rules included in the 2005-2008 edition of the IPC Shooting Rulebook will remain in effect. It is our intention to publish a revised version of the rulebook by 1 January 2010.

b) Qualification Processes and Timelines (Paralympic Games and World Championships):

For the London 2012 Paralympic Games a two (2) year qualification period is foreseen in order to bring the sport of shooting in-line with the global principles adopted for sports on the Paralympic Games Programme. As a result of this, IPC Shooting competitions during 2009 will have no weight toward Paralympic Games qualification. However, IPC Shooting will be devising more details in this regard and may make an exception to this regulation for the IPC Shooting Regional Championships, which may carry some qualification weight. Nonetheless, athletes that obtain MQS scores during the 2009 season will need to produce another MQS during the two (2) year period prior to the Paralympic Games in order that qualified athletes are seen to be both frequently competing and of an appropriate competitive calibre. For the 2010 IPC Shooting World Championships a qualification process is being implemented. In order to be eligible to compete at the Championships, new must obtain an MQS at an IPC Shooting Regional Championships or internationally approved competition during 2009. Those athletes that have obtained an MQS performance in the lead-up to the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games are automatically eligible to compete at these Championships. The current MQS for World and Regional Championships as found in the IPC Shooting Rulebook remain valid for this period. IPC Shooting will be working on qualification criteria revisions for the future during 2009.

c) 2009 IPC Shooting European Championships

For the IPC Shooting European Championships, the IPC received a bid from Wroclaw , Poland in November and is now working to finalize arrangements for this competition in early 2009. The proposed dates for these Championships are 4-12 July 2009.
